Who we are
The data controller is the site’s publisher:
What we collect
- The newsletter: if you sign up, we keep your email address, the site language, the topics you chose and the page you signed up from.
- Your favourites, with an account: the clubs, players and competitions you follow and the alerts chosen for each are saved to your account. Alerts show in your account’s bell and, if you keep the summary on and email sending is set up, are summed up by email once a day.
- Alerts: if you switch on notifications, your browser gives us a technical delivery address and two encryption keys. We keep them with the teams, players and competitions you follow, your language and the alert types you chose. If you are signed in, the device is linked to your account; otherwise we know neither your name nor your number.
- On your device only: your favourites, recent searches, light or dark theme and the “Morocco focus” filter stay in your browser. We don’t receive them (except your favourites, if you switch on alerts, so we know what to send you).
- Technical logs: like any website, our server records requests (IP address, page, date, browser) for security and to keep the service running. They are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Member accounts and comments
- To comment, you create an account: a username, an optional display name, an email address and a password (stored encrypted, never in plain text).
- Your email address is only used to recover your account; it is never shown or shared.
- Your public profile shows your name, your photo if you add one, your bio, your favourite team, the year you joined and your visible comments. Your city only appears if you choose to show it.
- We keep your comments, likes and reports, and the IP address and browser of each sign-in, to keep accounts secure.
- You can download your data or delete your account at any time from your settings. After deletion your comments stay, signed “Deleted member”.
- A technical cookie keeps you signed in; a second cookie only tells the page that an account is signed in.
Audience measurement
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google LLC, to learn which pages are read, where visitors come from (search engine, social network, direct link) and on which devices, so we can improve the site.
- You can turn this measurement off at any time with the “Turn off audience measurement” link at the bottom of every page: Google Analytics then stops on your device and the _ga cookies are deleted.
- Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_<id> cookies, which tell visits apart and last at most two years.
- What is measured: pages viewed, page title and language, section (sport, competition, club), where the visit came from, device type and browser, approximate country and city, searches on the site, shares, clicks to other sites, newsletter sign-ups and how far articles are read.
- Google Analytics 4 uses the IP address to estimate country and city, then discards it: it is neither stored nor visible to us.
- How long the data is kept is set in our Google Analytics account.
- The data is processed by Google, including outside Morocco. No advertising cookies are used and advertising signals stay off.
The same link at the bottom of the page turns measurement back on if you change your mind. Google’s privacy policy · How Google uses data from partner sites
Sponsored slot counters
To report to advertisers, we count ourselves, per day and per slot, how often an ad was seen (at least half of it for one second) and clicked. These are totals: no cookie, no IP address, no identifier, nothing that tells who saw or clicked.
We sell no data and use no advertising trackers.
Why, and on what basis
- Sending you the newsletter you asked for: based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Sending you the alerts you switched on: based on your consent, withdrawn by switching alerts off.
- Measuring the audience to improve the site: based on our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used, which you can turn off at any time at the bottom of every page.
- Protecting the site (forms, team sign-in): necessary for the service to work.
How long
- Email address: until you unsubscribe.
- An account’s favourites and alerts: until you remove them or delete your account.
- Alert data: until you switch alerts off, or as soon as your browser reports the subscription no longer exists.
- Audience measurement: per the Google Analytics settings, at most 14 months for detailed data.
- Technical logs: 14 days.
Who receives this data
- We never sell or rent any data. Only the classement.ma team has access.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database.
- Google, as audience measurement provider, unless you turn it off.
- Your browser’s notification service (Google for Chrome, Mozilla for Firefox, Apple for Safari), which carries alerts to your device. Alert contents are encrypted.
Your rights
Under Moroccan law no. 09-08 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, you have the right to access, rectify and object to the data concerning you.
You can also act yourself: every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, alerts are switched off from the My favourites page, and your cookie choices can be changed at any time from the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
You may also contact the Moroccan data protection authority (CNDP), www.cndp.ma.
