Unai Simon crowned best goalkeeper as Bounou and Kobel make shortlist of ten

Unai Simon has been named best goalkeeper of the 2025-2026 season at Monday evening's Ballon d'Or ceremony, according to Hespress FR. The Athletic Bilbao keeper succeeds Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Ten goalkeepers were in the running, according to Foot Mercato, including Morocco's Yassine Bounou, Gregor Kobel, Joan Garcia and Vozinha. Hespress FR adds that Simon is a world champion with Spain this summer.

Kobel has made 13 starts this season for Borussia Dortmund, second in the Bundesliga with 17 points after 7 matches. Niko Kovač's side travel to Bayern Munich on 31 October, kick-off 17:30 Casablanca time.
