Alexander Zverev begins the Rolex Paris Masters as world No. 1. According to Tennis Majors, tournament director Cédric Pioline rejects any suggestion that the German got there by default.
Pioline points to Zverev's injury at Roland-Garros in 2022 and his diabetes as obstacles that give the rise its weight.
The tournament will mark his arrival at the top of the ATP rankings with an ATP ceremony in Paris.
